The past couple of months have provided me with the opportunity to participate in and witness the ongoing ministry efforts of this church. It is with great joy and gratitude that I can share that here at St. Peter we are living into our faith and our congregation’s mission statement:
We are a worshiping faith community called to: Serve, Teach, Pray and Love in commitment to our Savior Jesus the Messiah.
Serve: No matter when the 2nd or 4th Friday or the 3rd Saturday of the month falls on the calendar we are prepared to serve our community with food. Our volunteers for our Food Bank and Community Breakfast events come from this congregation, fellow Lutheran parishes, and other Christian churches here in Hillyard and throughout the surrounding community. There is no doubt we are proclaiming Christ through our deeds, and it is entirely as meaningful for those that receive the food as it is for our volunteers handing it out!
Teach: This past September we began our Children’s Sunday School and Adult Bible Study. This October we are beginning our Confirmation Classes where our youth will learn what it means to affirm their baptism. Our goal is to teach and walk alongside them so that they can confidently engage and read the Bible, have a deeper understanding of the Lord’s Prayer, the Apostles’ Creed, and the sacraments as well as many other topics rooted in the Word of God.
Pray: During our prayers in worship, before and throughout our ministry outreach events, and when we pray as individuals we recognize the power of prayer, how God listens, and how when we invoke Jesus name that healing and transformation are experienced.
Love: It is our goal to ensure that the love we share is without boundaries. We serve and love our community regardless of need, ethnicity, race, faith or any other description that a child of God may claim.
Let’s all continue to do our best to help each other nourish our faith, serve, and inspire the community to follow Jesus’ Greatest Commandment of Loving God and Our Neighbors!
Many Blessings to All,
Intern Pastor Eric
