Worship at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Spokane will be online only for a while, until Covid-19 rates in our area decline and the guidance from the health departments change. We have made this change out of concern for our church members, our neighbors in our various communities, and our medical system as hospitals near capacity and medical personnel grow exhausted.
We gather live on Sundays at 10 a.m. (PST) – the link to our Facebook page is on each website page, and afterwards, the videos from our services will be available here.

Most of the time, God’s call to us is not as dramatic as in today’s scripture texts. But in our baptism, we are named ‘child of God’ and ‘beloved’ and are called to follow Christ.

When King David wanted to build a house (a temple) for God, the Lord reminded him that God never had a house, but has always been with God’s people wherever they are. God is with us now, as our usual ways of worship and holiday celebrations are disrupted, welcoming us as we also welcome God.

The prophet Isaiah reminds us that a garden brings forth what is planted. What has been planted in your life? What seeds are you planting and tending? What surprising seeds has God planted in and around you? As we wonder about the promised Messiah, coming soon, what else is God bringing forth?

As we wander through the wilderness, it can be helpful to remember that our spiritual ancestors also spent time in the wilderness. God was with them as they wandered and learned. John the Baptist reminds us to watch for the one who is coming. We know that the one who is coming is also the one who has come and the one who is with us now. Watch and wait for the Lord!
